Early voting in Georgia ends Friday, October 30!
Voting is one of the ways we participate in our communities and help shape our future. But planning to vote is only the first step. We can also encourage the people around us to participate.
As Election Day approaches, make voting a priority–not just for yourself, but for your family, friends, and neighbors.
Start With Yourself
Make sure you’re registered to vote, know what’s on your ballot, and understand when, where, and how you can cast your vote. Check your polling location, review your options for early voting or absentee voting, and put your voting plan on the calendar.
A little preparation can make all the difference.
Get Your Family Involved
Talk to your family about the importance of participating in elections. Remind everyone to check their registration, learn about the candidates and issues, and make a plan to vote.
Whether it’s your parents, adult children, siblings, or extended family, a simple reminder can help someone follow through.
Encourage Your Friends
Reach out to friends and make voting part of the conversation. Send a text, share a reminder on social media, or ask a simple question: “Have you made your plan to vote?”
You don’t have to agree on every candidate or issue to encourage one another to participate. The goal is to make sure everyone has the information and opportunity to make their own choices.
Help Your Neighbors Get to the Polls
Sometimes, the biggest obstacle to voting is getting there. An older neighbor, someone without transportation, or a busy friend may appreciate a ride or help figuring out their voting options.
Offer to drive a neighbor to the polls, coordinate a ride with friends, or help someone find official information about voting locations and hours. A small act of kindness can make voting more accessible.
Always make sure any ride or assistance is voluntary and that each person makes their own voting decisions.
Be an Upstander
It’s easy to assume that everyone else has voting covered. But participation starts with individual action and grows when we help one another.
Check your registration. Know your ballot. Make a plan. Encourage your family. Remind your friends. Offer a neighbor a ride.
Don’t be a bystander. Be an upstander.
This election season let’s look out for one another and make sure the people in our lives have a plan to participate.
Make your plan to vote. Help someone else make theirs. Then follow through!
