Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Be an Upstander

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is a time to raise awareness, encourage early detection, support those affected, and remind each other that no one should have to face cancer alone.

At the Feeney Legacy Project, we talk a lot about being an Upstander.

Don’t be a Bystander. Be an Upstander. Take Action.

Being an Upstander isn’t only about what we do in an emergency. It is also about how we show up for the people around us.

Maybe it’s encouraging someone you love to schedule a screening.
Maybe it’s checking in on a friend going through treatment.
Maybe it’s offering a ride, bringing dinner, listening, or simply saying, “I’m here for you.”

Sometimes taking action means knowing when to step in. Sometimes it means simply letting someone know they aren’t alone.

Breast cancer affects individuals, families, friends, coworkers, and entire communities. Awareness matters. Support matters. And action matters.

This October, let’s do more than wear pink.

Notice. Check in. Speak up. Support. Take Action.

Be someone’s second chance.

That’s what being an Upstander is all about.

Don’t be a Bystander. Be an Upstander. Take Action.
