Gun Violence Awareness Month: Every Life Matters
June is Gun Violence Awareness Month, a time to honor lives lost, support survivors, and work together to prevent tragedies before they happen. At the Feeney Legacy Project, we believe awareness leads to action and action can save lives.
Gun violence impacts families, schools, neighborhoods and communities across the country. Behind every statistic is a person: a child, friend, parent, teammate or coworker whose life mattered deeply. The ripple effects of violence reach far beyond a single moment, leaving lasting emotional and physical scars.
Awareness month is about conversations. It is about recognizing warning signs, supporting mental wellness, promoting safe firearm storage, encouraging conflict resolution, and creating communities where people feel seen, heard and valued.
At FLP, our mission focuses on saving lives through education, awareness and community connection. Whether through outreach events, wellness initiatives, youth engagement, or encouraging open dialogue, we know prevention begins when people care enough to speak up and support one another.
There are simple ways everyone can make a difference:
- Talk openly with family and friends about safety and mental health.
- Secure firearms responsibly and safely.
- Wear Orange
- Support organizations working to reduce violence.
- Check in on someone who may be struggling.
- Promote kindness, inclusion, and understanding in everyday life.
Gun Violence Awareness Month reminds us that prevention is possible when communities come together with compassion and purpose. Every action matters. Every conversation matters. Every life matters.
Orange Matters!
Together, we can continue building safer, stronger communities and a future filled with hope.
