Hedy Lamarr was a famous Hollywood actress in the 1940s and also a talented inventor. During World War II, she helped create a communication system called frequency-hopping, designed to prevent enemy forces from jamming radio signals used to guide torpedoes.
Although her invention was not fully used during the war, the technology later became the foundation for modern wireless systems like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. Lamarr is remembered today not only as a movie star but also as a pioneer in technology.
