In the heart of Chicago’s South Side, a charismatic Black rabbi and community activist works tirelessly to bridge African American and Jewish communities. An empathetic and fearless social justice warrior, Tamar Manasseh is celebrated for her grassroots work in combating violence, fostering racial harmony, championing women’s rights, and confronting systemic inequalities. Yet, her unique approach to Judaism is not without challenges, as she confronts racism and misogyny within Jewish spaces, and strives for acceptance as a trailblazing Black female rabbi. Continuing her story from They Ain’t Ready for Me (2021 AJFF), Tamar embodies tikkun olam, employing the transformative power of faith in advocating for a just society and affirmation of Black Jews within the wider Jewish community.
