AJFF’s Shorts Programs represent an international collection of narrative and documentary films, ranging from 40 to just a few minutes in length. Each program blends a variety of genres, styles, and subject matter.

The Record: Laurel icon denoting the film is in competition for a Jury Prize. An antiques dealer receives a magical vinyl LP record from a traveler, in this impressionistic, melancholic depiction of musical memory and Annecy Animation Festival winner.

Ibach: An historic piano survives the Holocaust across generations, in this love letter to a Philadelphia family heirloom, which also weaves in an in-depth look at the restoration process.

The Caretaker: Laurel icon denoting the film is in competition for a Jury Prize Hamburg museum caretaker risks it all to save “degenerate” works of art from Nazi seizure, in this suspenseful account of inconspicuous courage, based on a true story.

The Victorias: Laurel icon denoting the film is in competition for a Jury Prize. Jobless due to COVID, New York’s Tenement Museum reenactors mourn losing kinship with one another and historical subject Victoria, a Sephardic Jewish immigrant.

Tariff: In this sweet, unexpectedly fun vignette, an Arab taxi driver and Jewish passenger from Jaffa try to break the awkward discomfort when news of an outbreak of violence is heard on the radio.

Bourn Kind: The Tiny Kindness Project: Laurel icon denoting the film is in competition for a Jury Prize. Facing fear and isolation, a Black-Jewish street artist radiates goodwill and humanity as he creates a mural of hope, to celebrate compassion and community connection.
