Join the Atlanta Jewish community and allies as we celebrate Hanukkah and “Shine a Light on Antisemitism” on Wed., Dec. 1 at 6:30 p.m. at The Temple and online and on Sun., Dec. 5 at 6:30 pm at the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta.
According to the Anti-Defamation League’s annual Audit of Antisemitic Incidents,
2019 and
2020 were, respectively, the highest and third-highest years on record for cases of harassment, vandalism, and assault against Jews in the U.S. since tracking began in 1979. With this in mind, many Jewish partners and interfaith allies have come together to host these two events.
Atlanta is one of eight participating cities in the nationwide “Shine A Light on Antisemitism” campaign. This week-long campaign is an invitation to you to share the light and love and acceptance of the Jewish people and celebrate our linked humanity.

The
Atlanta Solidarity Community Chanukah Celebration will be
Wed., Dec. 1st at 6:30 pm at
The Temple. This limited in-person program (masks required) will also be live-streamed so people can join in by lighting their own menorahs during the program. Speaker from the ADL, the AJC Black/Jewish Coalition, local rabbis, elected officials, musical guests and interfaith allies from the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, the Episcopal Archdiocese of Atlanta, and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. All participants for in-person attendance need to be registered. The program will be followed by a young adult social hour hosted by the Philos Project.

The community “Shine the Light on Antisemitism” Hanukkah Celebration hosted by the MJCCA and the Atlanta Israel Coalition is taking place at the JCC on Dec. 5 at 6:30 p.m. This celebration will include a candle lighting, entertainment, sufganiyot, and guest speakers: Virág Gulyás, the NYC coordinator for End Jew Hatred, a grassroots civil rights movement dedicated to ensuring Jewish liberation from centuries of persecution and achieving justice for the Jewish people through peaceful direct action; and Gerard Filitti, a New York City-based human rights attorney. He serves as Senior Counsel at The Lawfare Project, a Jewish civil rights litigation fund and think tank that focuses on matters of civil and human rights, anti-Semitism, discrimination, and counterterrorism.
