Lament Together: A Tisha B’Av Service

Lament Together (1)

In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, we have become intimate with collective loss and grief. Living with the far reaching effects of this virus in addition to the brokenness we feel in response to racial justice, the dire state of our environment and the unease of the tensions of our political reality calls for release.

We observe Tisha B’Av as a day of lament and collective loss. Commemorating the destruction of the ancient Temple, the devastation of Jerusalem and the million deaths of her inhabitants, Tisha B’Av is the most mournful holy day in the Jewish year.

This year Gayanne and Rabbi Josh will be leading services that will guide us to be present to our grief of all of our collective losses with laments, chants, prayers and poetry. And if the timing works, Rabbi Josh will lead from the sanctuary, where we will have an opportunity to dedicate our new and finished memorial wall and say Kaddish for our communal loved ones.
