Head Shot- Kristina F. Anderson

Kristine’s path to the publication of Crooked Truth was a bit unusual.  She never had an agent.  But, at the eleventh hour,  She submitted her manuscript to Mercer Press for the Ferrol Sams Fiction Award.  Six months later she learned she received the award and a contract. Talk about beginner’s luck.

Author Kristine will be joining us LIVE and in-person on December 7th at  The Jewish Towers to share with us her journey to publishing the Novel, Crooked Truth.

Kristine F. Anderson earned a Ph.D. in Communicative Arts from Georgia State University. She has worked as a freelance writer for national newspapers and magazines and taught high school English.  She has also taught courses at Shorter College and Southern Polytechnic State University, now part of Kennesaw State University. Crooked Truth, her first novel, was nominated for the Georgia Novel of 2021 in the debut novel category and the 2021 Willie Morris Southern Fiction Award.

Crooked Truth Summary

While fifteen-year-old Lucas Webster doesn’t mind working in the fields on his grandfather’s farm in South Georgia, he hates getting stuck caring for his Uncle Robert.  Born with Down Syndrome, Robert can’t even tie his shoes.  Lucas wants to get out of Crisscross and be rid of his child-like uncle. But after his grandpa dies in the spring of 1948, things change. Alvin Earl, Robert’s older half-brother, returns to manage the farm with his guns and stash of liquor. And Lucas must now become more than a reluctant caretaker. When a fatal shooting occurs one hot afternoon, he must decide what to tell the sheriff.
