Erev Rosh Hashanah: The Year Opens In SoundShofar Service, Concert and Dessert Oneg

We will begin the High Holy Day season with a powerful new doorway into 5787: an Erev Rosh Hashanah gathering centered on the call of the shofar, the sweetness of Shabbat, and the sacred sounds of our community.The shofar is one of the most ancient and stirring sounds of our tradition. It wakes us from habit. It breaks through what has grown closed or numb. It clears space inside us for honesty, courage, tenderness, and change. Because Rosh Hashanah begins on Shabbat this year, we will gather before Shabbat begins to hear the shofar’s call together and prepare ourselves to enter the New Year with intention.This year, Erev Rosh Hashanah also coincides with the 25th anniversary of September 11. We will mark this solemn occasion with remembrance, honoring the grief and courage carried by that day as we enter a season devoted to repair, reflection, and the fragile work of beginning again.As evening falls, we will honor the arrival of Shabbat and be carried by some of the most beloved music and prayers of the season, offered by the CBH Chorus and Band. Through voices, instruments, silence, and song, this gathering will open pathways into the Days of Awe and invite us to receive the creativity, spirit, and dynamism of our community.Afterward, we will share a joyful Oneg, with time to connect, greet the New Year, and enjoy one another’s presence in community.
