Congregation Shearith Israel welcomes renowned Jewish artist Mordechai Rosenstein as Artist-in-Residence on April 11 – 15, 2018. Rosenstein’s work includes painting, tapestries, stained glass, sculpture and other mediums. He has given contemporary meaning to the art of Hebrew calligraphy, uniting his interest in Judaica and painting. 7:30pm Presentation: “Art Becomes Me”

In his presentation, “Art Becomes Me”, Mordechai Rosenstein will touch upon the history of Jewish art, speak about his artwork and share the stories of his pieces commissioned by such prominent figures as the Pope, President George H. W. Bush, President Clinton, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Isaac Stern, Jesse Jackson and others.

7:30pm Presentation: “My Journey as an Artist” 

Following Kabbalat Shabbat Services (at 7:30pm), Mordechai Rosenstein will speak about his work and lifelong journey as an artist. From his start as a teenager to his work in both New York and Philadelphia to the business of art, Mordechai will share the stages of his artistic development and interests in an engaging talk.

8:45pm Pinot & Painting

Adults-only event- come socialize, enjoy wine, and paint in collaboration with Mordechai! Pinot & Painting will begin immediately following Evening Services at 8:30pm. Come for both!

SUNDAY, APRIL 15

9:30am “The Secret of the Hebrew Alphabet”

A special art project for Machaneh Shai Religious School students and families! This activity will be divided into two mini-sessions:

9:30 – 10:15am Kindergarten – 3rd grade students and families

10:30 – 11:15am 4th – 6th grade students and families
