These days, music fans usually associate improvisation with other genres of music – jazz, or rock-n-roll. But when we go back and look closely, we see virtually all of the great “classical” composers were improvisers at heart (and sometimes rock stars, too!).Take a front-row seat at your computer and join pianist Ian Scarfe as he discusses & performs an all-classical program of piano music inspired by improvisation, including music by Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, Liszt, and more! After the program, join the artist for some live Q&A!About Ian ScarfeIan Scarfe enjoys a wide-ranging career as an advocate for music. Initially following directions to become a piano soloist, he quickly discovered the joys of diversifying his work. As a performer, he is equally comfortable as a soloist, accompanying recital partners, or in the mix of a small or large ensemble. As a speaker, he is a frequent lecturer during formal concerts, a host and emcee during casual musical events, and also a narrator to children’s programs. As a musical entrepreneur, he keeps a busy travel schedule across the United States and Europe organizing concerts, tours, and festivals. This program is in partnership with the JCC Adult & Senior Alliance and is presented by the Osher Marin JCC.
