Living well with Parkinson’s: Adapted Tango

December 17, 2018 Atlanta $5.00

Dance has been shown to be beneficial for improving physical and mental agility for people with Parkinson’s Disease and for older adults. Partner dancing specifically, can help with freezing, gait speed regulation, multi-tasking, stability, and movement initiation. In this class, you will learn a mix of patterns and movements adapted from the beautiful and expressive Argentine tango. We will work with and without partners and you learn some different rhythms through partnering exercises. You will learn some basic tango patterns and then get to dance the tango with different partners. This will be a fun social class – with no experience required. Class is based on the curriculum developed by Dr. Madeleine E. Hackney and others, as presented in the MDT Education Solutions Adapted Tango curriculum. We encourage family members, caregivers and volunteers to participate in this class.
