Guiding the Way Home with Rebecca’s Tent

Rebecca’s Tent; Spiegel Women’s Shelter at Shearith Israel is celebrating of our forty years supporting women experiencing homelessness. 
Rebecca’s Tent opened in 1983 as the first shelter to be located at a synagogue in the country. Over forty years later, we still provide beds, home-cooked meals, hot showers, laundry facilities, job coaching….and most importantly, hope to local women with no place else to turn.  We are open from November through March each year for overnight residents and have a day program year-round for showers, laundry facilities, and meals for unhoused women. Most of the women we serve are among the area’s “working poor”– they have jobs but are unhoused. We need to raise additional funds to be open for more weeks and more hours each year.
