Yom HaShoah Holocaust Remembrance Day Ceremony

On Sunday, April 19, 2020, from 3:30-4:30 pm, the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta (MJCCA) invites the entire community to a special Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom HaShoah) commemoration ceremony at the MJCCA’s Besser Holocaust Memorial Garden, one of the preeminent Holocaust Memorials in the Southeast.

This year’s guest speaker is Dr. Catherine Lewis, who is Assistant Vice President of Museums, Archives & Rare Books; Executive Director of the Museum of History and Holocaust Education; and Professor of History at Kennesaw State University. Dr. Lewis will speak about “The Importance of Holocaust Remembrance.”  Lewis is the author, co-editor, or co-author of fourteen books and has curated more than 40 exhibitions around the nation. Dr. Lewis regularly presents at national and international conferences and has helped bring numerous grants to KSU. Dr. Lewis completed her second term as president of the Georgia Association of Museums and Galleries in 2016.

The program will also include a choral performance, readings, memorial prayers, and the lighting of six torches in memory of those who perished in the Holocaust.  The program is free of charge, and will take place at the MJCCA, (5342 Tilly Mill Road, Dunwoody). Rain or Shine.
