Tisha b’Av… Beyond the Destruction

Tisha b’Av, the 9th of Av, is our collective Jewish day of commemorating historical trauma and grief. Traditionally, Tisha b’Av was about mourning the loss of the Temple in Jerusalem that ushered in an era of exile – and upon the creation of the Jewish state in Israel and our return to Jerusalem, many wondered: do we even need Tisha b’Av anymore? But in a world full of brokenness, alienation from one another, racism, violence, and dehumanization, not to mention a global pandemic, it is clear how relevant the themes of Tisha b’Av still are today.
