Nearly one in five Americans eighteen years and older experienced mental illness in 2018, according to a report by the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services. For a long time, many Jews refused to believe these problems exist in the Jewish community. Even today, the shame and stigma that persist keep people from speaking out and seeking — or offering — help. But the fact is, Jews are as likely as anyone else to be affected by mental illness and/or addiction, as our speakers will share. And they represent but a tiny fraction of the stories out there.
