Operation Wedding

It is 1970, and Soviet Jewry is trapped behind the Iron Curtain. A group of young Russian Jews have an outrageous plan: Disguised as a wedding party, they plan to buy all the tickets on a 12-seater flying from Leningrad, hijack it to Scandinavia, and then on to Israel. With the KGB discovering their plan, the group is arrested and, in a highly public trial, garners international attention. In this fascinating documentary that mixes archival footage with present day interviews, director Anat Zalmanson-Kuznetsov traces the story of her parents –  whose attempt to flee the Soviet Union helped spark the worldwide movement to liberate Soviet Jewry.
