A Jewish Interpretation of/ Commentary to the New Testament

In this 10-week course we will examine the first five books of the New Testament: The Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and Acts. Using “The Jewish Annotated New Testament” by Amy Jill Levine and Mark Zvi Brettler, we will explore the Jewish backdrop of early Christianity that emerged during the Second Temple period and the years following the destruction of the Second Temple. We will read selected texts from each Gospel to discover parallel texts from the TANAKH. We recommend that students purchase The Jewish Anotated New Testament by Amy-Jill Levine and Mark Zvi Brettler.This Part 2 course will be a Hybrid course: It will be offered simultaneously at the MJCCA and Virtually.Instructor: Dr. Shelley Buxbaum
